Chicken + Baboy = Chic-Boy :D

Looking for a very affordable dinner? My office friend CherieL said they (GY shift officemates) went to Chic-Boy last night. She recommended that I try it because according to her, food in Chic-Boy’s very affordable. Some eight hours and a bajillion meetings later, I went to Chic-Boy with hubby for dinner.

I didn’t expect that there would be many people in Chic-Boy or in Jupiter Street. I lived near Jupiter before and my law school was about about a hundred cartwheels away from it. That means I’ve seen the rise and fall of restaurants along Jupiter. I’m glad to see that restaurant businesses there are picking up again.

Back to Chic-Boy.

It stands for Chicken and Baboy (Filipino word for Pork). Their specialties are Chicken Inasal (an Ilonggo grilled chicken dish) and Lechon Cebu (the best suckling pig is from Cebu according to Anthony Bourdain in one of the episodes of No Reservations). What we usually have here Manila are restaurants that sell only Ilonggo dishes or those that offer Lechon Cebu only, not both… at least from what I know 😀 So Chic-Boy’s concept is pretty interesting for me.

It was 8pm-ish when we got to Chic-Boy. Maybe that’s why it’s full. Regardless of that though, our orders came out quick. We got these:

Chicken Inasal for only P97 (~~US$1.95)

Cebu Lechon Kawali for only P99 (~~US$1.98)

We added P25 (US 50 cents) and got refillable lemon iced tea.

Food is indeed very affordable 🙂

As for the quality of the food and taste, let’s just say that we got what we paid for. Not that we’re not happy with it but it’s really the kind you’d get for a budget meal. So if you’re looking for something fancier than that, it’s not the place for you. But if you’re looking for something that will get you by and still be satisfied, go check out Chic-Boy 🙂
